This book was delightful, and I loved it. I listened to the audiobook in one day and it made me smile and laugh when I was feeling very down. McQuiston’s writing style is fresh and funny and is an escapist haven where the world is rose-toned and free from the pandemic, California (and Oregon) wildfires, and Trump. It reminded me in style of American Royals, but where Katharine McGee’s series is a drama, this is a standalone frolic through real-world social and political issues that get resolved through good nature and common sense, with a side-order of humor and warmth.

The characters are fleshed out and I felt I could relate to them. Though the central relationship is romantic, there are solid friendships that I appreciate. I love watching warm friendships that trade in affection and emotional intimacy.
